Christmas concerts at HOME of FINE arts

HOME of FINE arts has completed the first semester of the 2011-2012 school year. Christmas concerts performed last week completed the semester. Many classes performed last week. I do not have photos of each class that performed, but I do have some photos of the Concert choir and Acts I choir.

Pickin' and Grinnin' at HOME of Fine Arts

HOME of Fine arts offers many classes; one of those is Guitar. This past Friday, parents and family were invited to visit the guitar classes to see the children perform some Christmas tunes. These photos were taken at at the 8am guitar class of some of the students and our great guitar instructor.

Thank you, HOME of FINE ARTS for always seeking out the BEST teachers to provide fine arts education to our children.

Art at HOME

One of the fine arts classes taught at HOME of Fine ARTS is of course, Art.  Mrs. Ellen Brewer teaches the middle school and up art classes.

At HOME of FINE Arts, we are blessed with many wonderful and talented teachers. We are so happy to have Mrs. Ellen Brewer as one  of them. She has been apart of the HOME program for several years having had several children participate in the program. Now, she teaches art, while her youngest is a student in the program.

Let's meet Mrs. Ellen Brewer.

Your position or classes taught at HOME of fine arts:

My career with HOME began as a volunteer parent liaison. I have been involved with the art program ever since I have been involved with HOME.  One of the founding beliefs incorporated within this program is that the parents may learn right alongside the children.  I took full advantage of that!  Little did I know that I was the art teacher in training.  I always thought, "Now, if this were my class, I would . . . . "  and now I do just that!

Your education and or job experience related to your HOME position?

I have an BA in Early Childhood Education.  I taught at Mt. Zion Christian Academy in Morrow for 3 years prior to the birth of my first child.  Fortunately, my education was an asset to the years of homeschooling 5 children!  I have always been interested in art and would really like to return to school for a formal art degree.  God has been good to put the people and information in my path that have allowed me to grow enough to share with the students.

Your vocation outside of HOME?

Outside of HOME I wear many hats:  wife, mom, educator, muralist, workshop leader, discipler, Bible study teacher, student, non-profit business owner, mentor, and soon to be grandma!

 Motto?

My words to live by are Coram Deo--before the face of God.  I try to remember that all of this life is lived in His presence, and encourage others in that way as well.

 Your family? Spouse? Kids? Pets?

I have been married to a wonderful man since 1983.  We have been blessed with 5 wonderful children that I have had the privilege of educating.  Four have graduated from college or technical school while one remains at home in 8th grade.

Something people would not naturally know about you?

Something people may not know about me is that I was once painfully shy.  I was mortified if I even sneezed because people looked at you.  When I was a mid-teen I heard that statement, 'Laugh and the world laughs with you, cry and you cry alone'.  I began to try it and it worked!  I found that if I smiled at people, they smiled back!  It was a door into a whole new world of confidence.  God did a mighty work in this child, as those who know me can attest!

Thanks, Ellen, for giving us a peek into your life, and for sharing your life and love of art with the kids at  the HOME of fine arts program.

What's NEW at HOME?

Photography is new at HOME. This year, photographer, Doyle Wallace is teaching several photography classes as well as a yearbook class. The students are very excited about the classes. Last week, while the teacher was out, his trusty substitute took the students around the HOME grounds to take photos. My camera went along on one of these class outings and several awesome photos were taken by some of the current students.

Picture THIS:

We look forward to watching the students learn more about photography  from a professional photographer this year.

HOME student feature

At HOME Of Fine Arts we are very blessed to have many talented students in our program. From time to time we will feature a different student or staff member on the blog. Today, we will be featuring one of our 10th grade students, Stephen Stanley. He is the son of Pastor Brandon and Stephanie Stanley, and brother to Caleb. Stephen enjoys taking Keyboard, Pep Band and Concert Choir at HOME. He has a passion and natural talent for music and his desire "is to write worship songs that people will sing in their churches."  He is also the youth worship leader for ONE80 at his church. He also has his own band The Steve Stanley Band.

Recently, Stephen entered the Opening ACT Junior Contest for Celebrate Freedom hosted by 104.7 THE FISH, and has made it as one of the 5 finalist. He has an opportunity not only to sing as an opening act at Celebrate Freedom, but also can receive $3529 towards college from the Path to College 529 Plan!

Take a moment and VOTE FOR STEPHEN this weekend . The winners are announced this Monday.

At HOME of Fine Arts, we are proud of all of our students, and especially proud of students like Stephen who go that extra mile to share their GOD given talents with others. It is always refreshing to see our students seeking to glorify GOD in all they do.

We WANT you ...

 to clip your BOXTOPS!!!

Don't forget to clip those boxtops off of many items that you may have in your pantry, or fridge. Items like taco shells, pillsbury items, cereal, cereal bars, paper products, and many more items may have box tops. Some items have double boxtops and items from Sam's have as many as 6 boxtops. Look at everything because my daughter recently found a boxtop on her 3 ring binder.

Be sure and clip those boxtops neatly, check the expiration date, and place in a zip bag or envelope...and if you have time count how many you have and write it on your bag. THEN bring them to the HOME desk on Fridays.

We can make money out of this 'trash' and use it to buy needed equipment for our program....so get to clipping folks!
